With the explosion in popularity of cannabis-derived products in recent years, knowing what product is effective for supporting your wellbeing and what is not has never been so important. And while there is plenty of useful information available to help you make the right decisions about the products you use, misinformation around the origin and application of certain cannabis products still persists, which can confuse some consumers and prevent them from realising the full potential of these remarkable products in their daily lives.
Not every company takes as much care to clearly label their products and provide essential advice for their use as we do at Green Stem CBD, and despite ever-evolving legislation to enforce clear guidance, the difference between some products remains unhelpfully ambiguous.
We’re here to help demystify CBD and similar supplements, starting with the unnecessary confusion centred around two distinct cannabis-derived products: CBD Oil and Hemp Seed Oil – most commonly known as ‘hemp oil’.
One Plant, Two Different Oils
Both CBD Oil and Hemp Oil are derived from the same plant, hemp. Hemp is a variety of the cannabis plant species that contains very low amounts of THC (a compound with psychoactive properties) when compared to marijuana, another member of the cannabis plant family which typically contains a higher concentration of THC.
After extraction and processing, the concentration of THC is reduced even further to either non-detectable levels or is completely free from THC. In any case, neither CBD or Hemp Oil will make the user ‘high’ or impart any kind of mind-altering effects.
But while they may share their origin with the same hemp plant, CBD Oil and Hemp Oil have clear characteristics that separate them from one another.
CBD, or Cannabidiol, is a compound extracted from the hemp plant, usually from the flowers, leaves and stems where it is most concentrated. Upon extraction, the product may also contain other components from the plant such as terpenes, fatty acids and other phyto-cannabinoids.
CBD typically comes in three forms: CBD Isolate, Full Spectrum and Broad-Spectrum.
- Isolate is the purest form of CBD and is commonly found in products like e-liquid for vaping.
- Full Spectrum CBD – the extracted CBD is joined by other compounds such as terpenes, phyto-cannabinoids, fatty acids and trace amounts of THC. Full Spectrum CBD can be found in many kinds of CBD products, including CBD Oil edibles and skincare.
- Broad-spectrum CBD is much like full spectrum CBD but contains zero or non-detectable levels of THC. It is used in oral and topical products like CBD oil, creams, edibles and beverages.
CBD Oil contains a concentrated form of CBD suspended in a carrier agent such as MCT (Medium-Chain Triglyceride), which is derived from coconut oil and palm tree extract. You can find CBD Oils that are flavoured and unflavoured.
At Green Stem CBD we only use CBD Isolate such as that found in our vape liquids and Broad Spectrum CBD in our oils, skincare, edibles and beverages, to ensure that our products are safe, pure and free from any psychoactive THC.
Because we are a company built on trust and transparency, we make sure that every customer can easily obtain a Certificate of Analysis, so that they can be confident that their CBD product contains the volume of CBD they expect, and less than non-detectable levels of THC and other unwanted compounds.
Hemp Seed Oil
Hemp seed oil, or hemp oil, is extracted from the seeds of the hemp plant and has been around for many years. Hemp oil has a remarkable variety of applications and is widely used in industrial products such as bioplastics and biofuel, concrete, skincare and cosmetics, and cooking oil.
Hemp oil is known to be rich in fatty acids and antioxidants and has anti-inflammatory properties that lends itself to treating a variety of skin conditions such as eczema and acne.
Being a plant-based protein, it is a popular alternative for olive oil due to its high concentration of omega-3, high smoke point and clean, nutty taste.
Which hemp product is right for you?
While hemp oil has been around for some time, the surging popularity of CBD in recent years can be attributed to its versatility across an incredibly broad spectrum of products, and the fact that the compound’s potential for significantly enhancing wellbeing, far more so than hemp oil, has become a subject of intense scientific research.
Millions of people have already found CBD to have made a positive impact upon their lives, and that is why Green Stem CBD continue to explore CBD’s incredible potential through innovation and listening to our customers’ needs.
CBD Oil has proven itself an effective supplement that’s easy to take and makes for a great introduction to CBD, or as a long-term, everyday supplement as part of any wellness regime.
At Green Stem CBD we offer four delicious flavours of CBD Oil, including Seville Orange, Wild Strawberry, Black Cherry and Peppermint, in a variety of strengths.
