What is the Entourage Effect In CBD?

The Entourage Effect

Some things just work better together. A sports team can’t compete without the teamwork of its players. Food doesn’t truly come alive until it’s been seasoned with salt and pepper or herbs and spices. And where would we be without friends, family and colleagues for company and support along life’s journey?

Put simply, groups thrive, and CBD and its diverse gallery of fellow cannabinoids and other compounds are no different. When they work together to apply the cumulative benefits of CBD to the body’s innate homeostasis, or natural balance, we call it the “Entourage Effect” and it reveals CBD’s astonishing therapeutic properties when its various properties all come together.

Broad Spectrum CBD

When we talk about the Entourage Effect, what we’re really talking about is Broad Spectrum CBD. Most CBD products on the market contain either Broad Spectrum CBD or CBD Isolate. Isolated CBD is what’s produced when only pure Cannabidiol is extracted from the hemp plant, whereas Broad Spectrum CBD extracts Cannabidiol and a host of other cannabinoids and compounds from the plant, leaving only the minutest trace of THC, the psychoactive element. You might also come across the term ‘Full-spectrum CBD’ which is identical in every respect but implies some residual percentage of THC alongside all other cannabinoids and other properties from the hemp plant.

These other compounds include phytonutrients such as Flavonoids which give fruits and plants their distinct colour and are known to provide antiviral, antioxidant, and anti-inflammatory effects; Terpenes which are aromatic compounds whose therapeutic effects are often used in aromatherapy, and fatty acids which further support your body’s homeostasis, or natural balance.

CBD is a type of cannabinoid which acts on the body’s nervous system. Terpenes are compounds that actually assist those cannabinoid’s effectiveness on the body, acting as conductors and enhancers to produce more potent effects and benefits.

These and many other compounds found in hemp plants all work together under what we call the ‘Entourage Effect’, supporting and enhancing each other like an orchestra playing a symphony. It’s a phenomenon exclusive to Broad Spectrum CBD, which is why we recommend using products that only contain this type of CBD if you want to experience the full gamut of benefits.

So does that mean CBD Isolate isn’t as effective? Not at all, but it is used in a different way. CBD isolate is the most potent form of CBD available on the market and is extracted down to 99.9% purity. CBD isolate comes as a white powder which can be mixed with a carrier oil such as the coconut-derived MCT oil we use in our CBD E-Liquids.

You’ll currently find  Broad Spectrum CBD in Green Stem products such as CBD oil oral drops, but we’re always working on bringing innovative new products that harness the extraordinary benefits of Broad Spectrum CBD to the market. Stay tuned by following us on Twitter and Facebook.
