Why use CBD?
There are many reported benefits to using CBD. It has anti-inflammatory properties, meaning it may help with everything from acne to chronic pain, and demonstrates powerful antioxidant properties - more powerful than vitamins such as vitamin C and E.
Life in the 21st Century is full of prospect and opportunity, but many people find it difficult to keep on top of the stress and pace of modern life. CBD can potentially benefit people like you, and while not an officially registered medicine, the WHO Cannabidiol Report suggests that CBD can be used to calm the symptoms of anxiety, insomnia and depression to name a few and promote a harmonious balance between mind and body.
How does it work?
In recent decades, scientists have discovered that cannabinoids are not only found in plants (phytocannabinoids), but also in humans (endocannabinoids).
Cannabinoids have been found to balance the body and mind, promoting a sense of wellness. CBD is the highest profile and most effective of these cannabinoids and has become increasingly popular in recent years. But how does it work?
It all comes down to the endocannabinoid system. The human Endocannabinoid System (ECS) is a crucial molecular system the body uses to help maintain a number of important processes. The ECS is made up of a series of receptors configured to react to CBD, regulating many bodily processes such as sleep, immune-system responses and pain.
The human body has two main receptors: CB1 and CB2.
CB1 receptors exist in the brain and spinal cord. They work to regulate appetite, memory and to reduce pain.
CB2 receptors’ primary role is to reduce inflammation. They are predominantly found in the immune system, but exist through many other areas of the body, including the gut, spleen, liver, heart, kidneys, bones, blood vessels, lymph nodes, endocrine glands and reproductive organs. CB2 receptors are also plentiful on the skin, which allows topical applications of CBD to influence the ECS.
