CBD vs THC

While being separate compounds, both CBD and THC influence the endocannabinoid system (ECS) – a complex system within the body that regulates processes such as memory, mood and appetite. Research is still being carried out to try and understand the ECS more, but it does show that both compounds affect it differently.

What is CBD?

CBD, short for cannabidiol, is a compound found in cannabis. Different strains of cannabis come in many shapes and forms, but CBD is typically extracted from Cannabis Sativa, commonly referred to as ‘industrial hemp’.

What is THC?

Tetrahydrocannabinol, more commonly known as THC, is the psychotropic compound found in marijuana (a subspecies of cannabis with a typically higher THC content). It activates the receptors in the brain that release a higher-than-usual level of dopamine, both changing your mood and can cause a feeling of euphoria.

Even though cannabis is currently classified as a Class B Controlled Substance, CBD is perfectly legal to use and possess in the UK. And even though THC is illegal in the UK, trace amounts are still allowed in CBD products.

Summary

We hope this article has shed some light on the key differences between CBD and THC, and given you the confidence to make an informed decision when purchasing safe-to-consume cannabis-based products.
